What else could be wrong with my wrist?!

Question:

What else could be wrong with my wrist?

I don't think it's carpal tunnel, I have been reading up on that and the symtoms don't match. It happens quite frequently. The pain is not in my hand or fingers at all. It's more on the inside of my wrist closest to the side that aligns with my thumb, if I move my wrist to any degree it's painful, it feels very weak. To the touch it feels like it's bruised but it's not. I haven't damaged it at all, haven't twisted it or anything. When this happens I put ben gay or something on it or either wrap it in a bandage to avoid using it as much and it gets better within a couple days. But their has to be a reason it does this. Thanks.

Answers:

The area that you describe is where the scaphoid bone of your wrist is. This bone is prone to stress fractures and usually doesnt heal well without being immobilized. I am not saying that is definitely what it is, only an orthopedic doctor's exam along with a radiograph plus a bone scan can determine yes or no. Another possibility is tenosynovitis of one of the tendons that cross over your wrist. I think it is worth your time and money to have this checked out. If you can, go straight to an orthopedic or hand specialist to save time and money. Best of luck.
