I fall asleep in about 4 of my classes every day and can't stop?!

Question: I fall asleep in about 4 of my classes every day and can't stop?
I'm a junior in high school, and like everybody else, I try to get to bed early, but mostly get to bed by 11,12, or 1. The problem is that I can't stay awake during class when we're taking important notes and I don't want this to effect the way I use class time. Please- any advice on how to stay awake when it hits me and my head starts nodding? Thanks :)

Your body knows it needs the sleep. If you go to bed after midnight, your brain will insist on making up for it the next day. You must have at least 8 hours of sleep per night - at your age, 9 hours would not be too much.
You say you "try" to get to bed early. Does that mean it's a problem of self discipline? Because you have to stop trying, and do it. I find it boring to go to bed too, and I'm 61! - but a bit hyperactive in the evening. So what do I do? Well, I love to read a good book. I generally try to get to bed about 15-20 minutes before my wife (you wouldn't have that complication) with a novel that's not overly exciting but just interesting enough. Ideally, one that I've already read before. (Otherwise I'll get up a couple of hours later to finish the rest of the book!). I read in bed either until I start to get that drowsy feeling, then turn off my bedside lamp, or until my wife comes to bed - whichever comes first. In any case, I usually don't have too much difficulty getting to sleep. If you have to get up at 6 am to take the bus to school, then get to bed before 10:00 - perhaps 9:30. This really is not "just one idea" - it's an absolute must. Otherwise you will have serious problems with your grades.
Oh - for that bedtime book - you could also use a school history book! Those dates will put anyone to sleep in no time at all.
Edit: The suggestions about water and diet that have been made are also important. I was thinking of those first of all until you mentioned not going to bed until late. Try following all of those suggestions. There is no miracle cure. Just the common sense cures.

I am so sorry to tell you this but unfortunately there is nothing you can do. You can try using NoDoz (I think that is how you spell it). I am naturally hyper and there were just some teachers that I could not stat awake for. I know that when I had too much sleep that made me more tired because my body was not used to that much rest. I suggest finding new teachers for those classes and making a friend or two in the class. If you fall asleep then you can take notes from your friend. It also helps if you befriend the professor so that he/she can explain anything that you missed. They like when you speak to them and it shows that you are trying. Most professors want to see that you are working and that you are interested in the topics being discussed.

get more sleep and drink more water. there is a good chance you are dehydrated which makes you drowsy. most people don't drink enough water so there is a good chance that is the problem. also if you eat mostly junk food you may want to consider changing your diet.
try not do drink caffeinated drinks like coke or coffee, as you will become dependent on them and they actually have negative consequences on your sleep patterns, and inevitably make it worse. also, naps really do not help much as you do not reach REM sleep when napping, which is the most important type of sleep. this will also just mess up your sleep patterns.

You need a lot more sleep than you are getting at night. It would not do any good to stay half awake during class if you were still too tired to pay attention.

11, 12, 1 o'clock is way, way too late for you to be going to bed. I say finish your homework right after supper and turn off your computer and lights by 10:30 p.m. every night, except on Friday and Saturday nights. If I could make you do it even earlier, I would. Teenagers need a lot of sleep.

You should not have a television set in your bedroom at all. Those things are sleep suckers and they create bad energy in the room.

I also agree that you might need to drink more water and eat better food. And shut off your phone.

Hide your phone at night, instead of being on it half the night

4 kids my own

It's obvious that you are not getting enough sleep.
Get to bed 9 at the latest, and do it every day.

Coca-Cola can keep u awake but try going to bed at 10 or at least try to sleep when at home a little bit
