Should I take my son in to the er??!

Question:

Should I take my son in to the er??

I am a cna, and know the basics of sprains, fractures etc..
Not very good when it comes to my own son,,u know? Family is different.. Anyway,,my son came home from his fathers house today after a day at an amusement park. I called his dad and he said that two days ago (seems odd) he accidentelly ran over my sons foot with a racecar (toy). Today, on the side of his foot he has a good size lump, it's swollen all over his ankle, sore to the touch, hurts to move his foot and toes. I have given him a dose of ibuprofin, and have had ice on it. Should I take him in tonight? He's not crying, but it's obvious it hurts..Or should I wait until morning, see how it looks and feels,, and call his doctor?? What would you do??
I don't want to overreact,,but then again,,I don't want to underreact..INPUT ASAP PLEASE!!!

I severely sprained my foot on Saturday, and I was able to wait until Monday to go to the doctor, and it was nice to see my regular doctor. My foot also had a large bump on it and bruised, and it was only sprained. If you would like to you could take him to the ER, but personally it could be nice to wait, but you may want to go...if you'd like you could ask him what he'd like to do. If you have an urgent care center you could take him there...it would be less expensive, and take less time. Really it's up to you, but if you feel that it's bad you should probably get him seen whether you feel it's urgent and do the ER, or urgent care, or if you feel you can wait until tomorrow morning.
