Answers:

Funnily enough, I was talking to a Physiotherapist earlier today who mentioned that most of the knee pains that people come to him with are actually caused by ankle problems.
Basically, when you have an ankle problem or injury you walk differently to try to protect it and make it less painful. This often puts a different kind of pressure on your knees than your usual walking style so your knees start to hurt too.
Hopefully, once your sprained ankle is better and you are walking normally again, your knees will stop hurting too. If not, get your GP to have a look.
Good luck.

I've sprained both ankles five times each (mostly skateboarding) and knee pain never accompanied any of those sprains. Your knee sounds totally unrelated to your ankle and the timing is just coincidence. This depends a lot on what you were doing to sprain your ankle and injur your knee though. There is no connection between sprained ankles and injured knees where one can cause the other, but sometimes there are underlying problems with the body that cause multiple issues at once. However, a sprained ankle is from external trauma, and would not factor into your body being a partial cause to that. If you already live an active lifestyle where your joints take an impact you could suffer temporary over use of the knee. Also, excessive calcium may cause knee discomfort, only while it is still built up in your system though. Many other causes are possible, but I am unaware of their details. =)
