When I squat, my knees hurt. How can I change this?

As a healthcare provider I can tell you that to strengthen knees you need to build your quadraceps without putting additional weight or pressure to the knees. The best way to do that is cycle riding. Stationary or otherwise. This is the exercise that is always done after knee replacements to support and strengthen knees. Jogging is very hard on the knees....as is doing squats. Exercise in water is also good because it relieves the weight off of the knee but still allows for exercise. If you want a weight lifting exercise to strengthen quads, leg extentions are better than squats.
