Loss of blood circulation in hand during sleep?!

Question:

Loss of blood circulation in hand during sleep?

During sleep i tend to place my hand under my head either directly or under the pillow. Because of this, I wake up in the middle of the night with a painful and numb hand. The sensation goes away after a few seconds as I let the blood circulate back to my hand.

What can I do to stop myself from doing this?

Answers:

I used to have that problem too ever since I was a child. Over time it got worse. Some docs thought it was carpal tunnel syndrome. It eventually started happening when my hands were simply in a resting position when I was trying to sleep. Finally I had some tests run and the conclusion was atherosclerosis.

The only thing I can suggest to stop you from sleeping on your hands is what the doc told me....try sleeping on your back.
