When I look at the clear blue sky I see "stuff", is this normal?!

Question:

When I look at the clear blue sky I see "stuff", is this normal?

When I look at the clear blue sky for a bit, takes 10 - 20 seconds, I begin to see small glittering "worms". It's not very pronounced. They are very small, much smaller than the veins or capilaries (or whatever those other squiggles are), plus the veins are just plain grey and these are multicolored, not unlike auras before a migrain (in color, not shape). They are very short, pervasive, but not like all over (they're kinda in the background like a mild static).

The question is... does this happen for other people? Is this just something people may see when they stare out at a plain color/sky, or is it perhaps a symptom that I can mention to my doctor relative to my migraines? I've been getting migraines alot lately, and I'm debating going to the doctor again, but if I don't have anything new for him, there seems to be no point.

Actual medical advice would be helpful, but really anyone that can stare at the sky can be a help as well.

Answers:

What you are seeing are known as "Floaters" [1], they are very common and more or less everyone can see them in their vision under the right conditions. They are typically not a medical concern unless you frequently see a lot of them or suddenly have a large number of them appear in your vision. In the first case you should mention it to your eye doctor when you see them and in the second case it might not be such a bad idea to see an eye doctor as soon as you can as it may be a sign of a detached retina.
