Can looking at a computer all day damage your eyes?

For my job, I spend my entire day at the computer. Has anyone heard of studies or news reports indicating what kind of damage this causes?

At the end of the day, my eyes can be dry and feel strained. Any good ideas to prevent this?

Has anyone had a doctor tell them they're loosing eye sight due to their computer usage?

My dr told me my near sightedness was caused from looking at a computer all day. I always had perfect eye sight till I got a job where I worked with a computer all day. Basically I can see near but in looking far it is blurred and not good. The dr. said that your eyes can get conditioned to see near from looking at a computer and it weakens the muscles that you use to see far. He told me about every 30 minutes to an hour make a point to look off in the distance for a minute.
