Long flight with a sprained ankle?!

Question:

Long flight with a sprained ankle?

My son will be traveling from the US to Germany tomorrow and has a sprained ankle. I'm concerned about the long flight and all of the walking he will have to do. Any tips on how to take care of if so he can still enjoy his trip?

Answers:

Other than ice and Advil/Aleve for the pain. He should get a walking boot and a compressive ankle wrap. Because of the flight, the ankle will swell a lot more because of the altitude change so these 2 things will really help with that. The walking boot that I had for my ankle I used for 5-7 days and then the rest of the 2 or so weeks, I used the compressive ankle wrap. This really helped me tremendously and allowed me to heal very quickly. If you can, have your son go see a local podiatrist before he goes so he can get this stuff for his trip. Hope this helps!
