Answers:

Hi,

Great that you have taken a step to value your health!

So I say first get clear on why you are stopping?

It is hard to stop doing something that harms you, and much more powerful and effective to start doing that serves you.

So look at the you who does not smoke, what does he have that you want? Make a list. What is the overall goal. not to be smoke free, but what is the overall gain, make this your goal!

Next what positive habit can you replace it with. Your body is not stupid if it feels like it is dependent on, and gets joy from something, then it will not let it go easily. So you need to entice it by inviting it to something better. ( Food is not a good idea, or you will have another problem).

Keep structures around you that remind you of the positive gains you are getting, and use the money you save as part of this pro-active reward scheme. So postcards of places you will go with your money, Blue skies, windy days. Active days out with your daughter that you can't do when you are smoking. Also be clear of the things that you associate with smoking, and try to replace or avoid them especially in the beginning

The point is that your approach to it is in fact perhaps more important that the way you do it. If you feel victimized it will be hard but if you feel empowered to reaching a positive experience, or way of life, then you will do it for the sake of that!

So Pro-active not Re-active. Pro-active you will be moving towards a new positive action. Re-active means you will continue to take the same actions.

Hope this helps, and good luck. You and your family deserve the life that is possible when you are at your best health!
