How does pain and adrenaline work?!

Question:

How does pain and adrenaline work?

Yesterday I noticed two things. It was early in the morning and I got a carpet burn on my floor and I got a paper cut later on, and they hurt like wild. They stung uncontrollably for an hour or two. A few days ago I burned my finger on a pan, after touching it for half a second, and it hurt really bad for the entire day.

Yesterday afternoon I sliced my toe on the side of my bed frame really bad. It was half hanging off, and there was blood everywhere. It was unlike anything that has ever happened to me, but it didn't work me at all? When it happened I cried in pain really loud, except it wasn't a cry in pain, it was just a shout because I knew it was bad whatever I did.

I just wanna know how does adrenaline and pain work. A little paper cut or a tiny burn kills me, but having half my toe hanging off doesn't. I was in the waiting room for 2 hours like this, and I could of been playing a gameboy or having a lunch. It didn't bother me at all.

Answers:

When you know your about to participate in a rigorous exercise or a fight then your body secretes adrenaline from the adrenal glands. This means that more energy is supplied to your respiring muscles and more oxygen is being distributed around your body. Pain is just the bodys way of telling you it is in danger. However it is possible to mentally block out pain as it is in the mind. So if after you cut yourself etc, you tell yourself its okay and its nothing and that it doesnt hurt and pain doesnt exist then the chances are you will feel pain less.
