Recurring middle back pain?!

Question:

Recurring middle back pain?

For about 5 years now, I've been experience some back pain. I went to the doctor back then, but they couldn't find anything wrong. After about a couple weeks it went away. The pain has been reoccuring ever since. It comes for a few weeks, leaves for a few weeks and comes back again. It's always the same spot, the middle left side of my back. Some times are more painful than others. It hurts to move and it also hurts when I take a deep breath. I'm 31, average weight & height. Any ideas of what could be bothering me or what I could do to help fix it?

Answers:

If the pain feels superficial then most likely its a muscle spasm. The question is why is the muscle spasm there. It could be that you have a vertebrae out of alignment, or you could have poor posture with one of your daily activities (reading, sitting at the computer, etc) which will place prolonged stress on the muscle, causing it to tense up. I am not a big advocate of them but my suggestion is to see a Charopractor, combined with some massage therapy to help release the spasm. If after a couple of sessions this does not do the trick then I would recommend you go to see a physical therapist. PT will be different from the chiro b/c they can identify activities in your daily life that may be causing this and advise you on corrections, and also show you stretches you can do daily to help keep this from being a chronic problem.
