What kind of a doctor do I need to see?!

Question:

What kind of a doctor do I need to see?

My left knee is been hurting me for about 3 years and it keeps me up at night. Cold weather bothers it.It make s cracking noise anytime I move it. I have been to a few doctors already and done x-rays and MRI, and they said that it's not serious enough for a surgery but They keep giving me meds, but nothing is helping. I need a doctor who cares and will listen to me not make me feel like all they want is the co-pay

Answers:

You can go see an orthopedic surgeon, who will probably repeat the MRI and x-rays. Unless the damage is to the tendons, though, there will not be a lot they can actually do. The problems that usually cause pain and crackling noises involves the cartilage, and nobody has managed to come up with a good fix for that just yet. The best they can usually do is shots, medications and knee braces to help support and stabilize the knee joint. My husband suffers problems in both knees, due to cartilage disintegration, and there is nothing else they can do for it. In fact, his orthopedic surgeon has knees that sound worse than his do. So unless you have something surgically repairable, be prepared to hear this same thing. They have medications and braces, and sympathy, Nothing else is available at the moment.
