I can't sleep, I just feel so awake. Should I worry?!

Question:

I can't sleep, I just feel so awake. Should I worry?

I'm becoming sort of concerned. I didn't sleep at all last night. And it wasn't what I would characterize as insomnia, because I just wasn't tired. I've tried to sleep a few times in the past 24 hours but it's no good, because I'm not tired. And it's not only that I'm not tired, I'm very very very awake.

The only other strange symptom is that for the past 4 days or so (since I got home from a flight) my whole head has been very dry (my eyes, my nose, and my throat). I have been ravenous for water. I usually drink a lot of water, but the past 4 days I've drank literally twice as much as usual. Well over 100 ounces a day, but I'm still dry, dry, dry... The weather said 67% humidity today, which isn't bad. I don't know what's up!

It's been more than 18 hours since the last time I took mucinex, caffeine or anything else that I thought may have been the cause of my severe awake-ness. If I don't get tired tonight, I'm going to the dr tomorrow.

Should I be concerned?

Answers:

You should consult a doctor if you are urinating frequently or your lack of sleep is affecting your concentration, alertness, other mental functions, reactions, judgment, job performance, or health.

One remedy for jet lag I read about is to enter a dark room and flip the light switch on and off a few times. Afterward, go outside and have a good look at the sky. This is supposed to reset the alarm on your internal clock, allowing you to re-establish normal sleep patterns. Can't vouch for its efficacy, however.

A book called Qigong Empowerment has a useful exercise for insomnia that usually helps me when I'm having trouble sleeping. Its efficacy is probably affected by how regularly one exercises in other ways.
