I started working third shift and now sleep a lot.?!

Question:

I started working third shift and now sleep a lot.?

people say it's hard to get enough sleep, but i'm getting too much. i go to bed when i get home, get up for about four hours and take nap before work.
maybe this is because i go in at 3am. there's just nothing to do by 10pm. any suggestions?

Answers:

i work 3rd shift (7p-7a) and i stick to a strict routine during my work days. i'm in bed by 830a every single morning and set my alarm for 4p. if i wake up before then-i stay in bed (i rarely wake before the alarm goes off). this helps my body adjust.

during my days off, i switch back to a normal routine of going to bed at 10p since i have to care for my 3 small kids.

this routine works well for me-i rarely feel tired and i never feel like i sleep too much. i've been working nites for 3 years and i think the length of time that you've been working nites plays a role. if you're new to nites-give yourself a few months (yes i said months) to adjust-you're fighting your body's natural clock as far as sleep goes.

try sleeping later, then getting up and staying up before going in to work-broken sleep might be making you feel more tired, so the nap might be doing more harm than good. by not going back to bed, you train your body that it is now time to be awake and do things rather than expecting that nap later on (which can make you sluggish)

hope this helps!!
