Question:

I have a bug bite on my ankle that has a brownish clear fluid coming out of it and it's really itchy.?

Any ideas what it's from and if this fluid stuff is normal

Answers:

hmmm-sounds like it might be infected or starting to become that way.

clean it well with warm water and mild soap. apply a thin layer of neosporin and cover with a bandaid or gauze wrap (found at local drugstore). make an appt to have it looked at with the next 24-48 hours to make sure it's not infected.

you can take oral benadryl to help with the itch (do NOT use the benadryl cream or any other anti-itch cream to the bite since it's leaking fluid-you could infect it worse). take 1-2 of the 25mg tablets every 6 hours as needed but no more than 4 doses in 24 hours. this medication can make you very sleepy so make sure you don't have to go out anywhere when taking it.

if you have any of the following symptoms or start to develop them-get in to see a dr asap-they are signs of infection and you'll need antibiotics

-increased redness or swelling to bite area
-the bite becomes more painful, hot, or tender to touch
-the bite is draining fluid that is green or yellowish-brown in color
-you begin to run a fever of 100.5 or higher
