I can't go to sleep horrible headache and tooth pain?!?!

Question: I can't go to sleep horrible headache and tooth pain?!?
I went to my ortho yesterday and he made some adjustments to my retainer, I wore it from 3:15pm to 2am and then woke up with horrible horrible pain all on the top roof of my mouth and a mild headache, now almost 3 hours later I have an even worse teeth ache and the worst headache I've had in my life? I've already taken 3 liquid advil and it hasn't done anything what should I do???

Answers:

At this point, Advil is about all you can do, except maybe eat some ice cream or drink very cold ice water (hold it in your mouth before swallowing). Your teeth unfortunately are going to hurt because of the adjustment, but if it is causing you that much discomfort, have one of your parents call the orthodontist in the morning and ask if you can get anything stronger. It should subside soon. Ask the doctor if you could use a topical numbing solution, like Anbesol.

The pain is causing you to tighten up your neck muscles and that is the cause of your headache. The neck muscles go to the top of your head where they connect to muscles going around the head. When the neck muscles get tight they pull the head muscles into pain as well and that's your headache. to get rid of it you have to free up your neck muscles and here's how to free them up:
Neck
Put your hands alongside your head so your thumbs are on the front of the muscle under your ear and your fingers are on the back of the muscle behind your neck. Squeeze your thumb and fingers together and hold. Relax your body. When your fingers and thumb touch, about one minute, slowly lower your head as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your neck lowered for another 30 seconds.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

Call your Ortho as soon as possible and explain to him/her exactly what you wrote here It sounds like your retainer needs adjustments made. And in the mean time, don't wear your retainer until it is correctly fitted.

call your ortho.
