Sore Throat/Ear hurts?!

Question:

Sore Throat/Ear hurts?

I have a sore throat and recently, my ear has been hurting. I think I may have an ear infection or cold? I'm not sure. I have been swimming in our lake regularly...I may have water from the lake.

Answers:

If you continue to have an earache, you could have swimmer's ear, or an outer ear infection. This is an infection of the outer ear (ear canal) but does not involve the eardrum which is in the middle ear. Frequent swimmers are too familiar with this problem. Treatment is no big deal, you will probally be prescribed eardrops and maybe oral antibiotics (but not always). Any sore throat and/or earache that persists needs to be evaluated by a doctor.
