I severely broke my ankle seven months ago, when can I expect to wear heels agai!

Question:

I severely broke my ankle seven months ago, when can I expect to wear heels again?

...or other attractive shoes? Right now I'm stuck wearing sneakers--not even the stylin' kind, but New Balance, the official sneaker of podiatrically challenged retirees--or rubber clogs like nurses wear in hospitals. I just ditched the aircast two weeks ago, so that's progress. My PT seems uninterested in discussing it, so I thought I would ask here since much of the medical info I've gotten in Y!A has been surprisingly on the mark.

"Severe" means trimalleolar w/ dislocation and damage to just about every ligament. I am lucky to be walking. Glad I didn't know that at the beginning... But I'm young (28), was athletic (measurable times in 5ks and 10ks, even placed in a couple), and so I think I should be able to come back to mostly normal... No, I'm not obsessed with the shoe issue, but I'd like to have that high that you get from an attractive pair of shoes again.

Answers:

I understand exactly where you're coming from. After suffering tons of ankle sprains, and one VERY severe one (I couldn't really do anything physical that included my ankle other than walking for 11 months).

My suggestion is just to go out shopping and find some really cute flats. They do exist.Stores like Old Navy, the Gap,TJ Maxx, and The Bonton have quite good selections! In fact,I just bought a pair of Kenneth Cole sandals at TJ Maxx for only $20 in preparation for this summer (I'm having ankle surgery,so I'm not going to be wearing heels for quite some time, especially since I can't wear them now either).
