What's the point of a physical exam?!

Question:

What's the point of a physical exam?

I'm 40 so this isn't for school (or job). Went to MD for stomach issues- we treated, he recommended a physical exam. Now I'm wondering why. I'm fine. I don't really want to spend the cash today (no insurance). I have no symptoms of anything...should I go?

Answers:

Physical is just like an engine check up. They make sure everything is running as it should. They check you over head to foot and make sure there isn't any hidden problems. A physical can find things that might be a risk that you won't see or know is there without the exam. At 40 you should be having yearly exams and if a man you need to be getting your prostate checked once a year. You can have prostate issues and never know it without an exam. Don't be a baby-get the exam and have the wonderful feeling of knowing you are healthy for another year. It was during a physical exam I foound out I am diabetes type 2. Ger er done!
