Gum Stuck in Throat!?!

Question:

Gum Stuck in Throat!?

Last night I accidently swallowed some gum and now it feels like it is stuck in my throat. I tried drinking cold water, hot tea, eating bread and swallowing ice and nothing seems to work. Any other suggestions. It's irritating me to the point where I am thinking about going to see my doctor.

Answers:

If it is really bothersome, you may want to visit your doctor or the ER. It could be life-threatening if it suddenly moves and blocks your airway. My guess is the gum is stuck (perhaps near your epiglottis which is the clover-looking flap that closes when you swallow so you don't aspirate or get fluid or food in your lungs) in an area where it will not come out on it's own. Maybe the gum isn't stuck at all and some organ in your throat (such as your thyroid) is enlarged. See a doctor, please!
