Answers:

I would be extremely cautious with straining too hard. Doing so will result in hemorrhoids or a fistula inside the anus. Hemorrhoids are tender, painful swelling in the rectum or anus consisting of distended veins that are often filled with blood clots. It could also be internal (inside the anus) or external (outside/around the anal entry). A fistula is a tear inside the anus causing pain and blood in the stool.
My suggestion is using over-the-counter suppositories. These aid in "passing the motions" a bit more smoothly.
While some people are overly sensitive to the adult suppositories, there are also suppositories for babies that would be work just as well. Of course, always check for allergic components before using ANY sort of medication!!!
A change in diet would also help in "passing the motion." It could be adding more fiber to your diet or simply drinking more water.
Good luck with your problem!
