Does wearing suntan location spf 40 prevent sun tan?

it may be a dumb question but I really dont know.. What spf is safe to get a tan

Answers:

Your skin will still tan, and as long as you are out only reasonable times with 40 SPF you will not burn. Reasonable means not more than an hour or two.

Sun stroke can be horrible. Been there and done that twice.
