How can you be affected by cigarette smoke?!

Question: How can you be affected by cigarette smoke?
My brother is a smoker, and he constantly smells of cigarettes. It's hell in the car because I get really bad headaches and I start coughing...
He also borrowed my guitar and now it smells HORRIBLE.
I'm going to let it air out, but is there anything to get rid of the smell?
Could I get addicted or get cancer from the lingering smell? he never actually smokes around me...
Will it affect me in any way?

Answers:

Just chill.... you'll be fine. It's stinky to a non smoker but as long as he isn't smoking around you blowing the smoke in your face you're not gonna get any affect. When you're in the car try asking him to crack his window or open your window even though it doesn't get rid of all the smell. Try some febreeze for the smell...

It may affect you, it may not. It depends how long you are around him. When I was younger my Dad smoked around me and since I have developed a light form of asthma, which becomes annoying during the hay fever period.

Studies have found that passive smoking can have serious health risks attached to it, as shown by this recent article from the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-1260704…

However, others have spoken against this and said that it is overrated and that in order to develop any form of cancerous illness one would need to breathe in second hand smoke constantly for a year before anything serious actually occurs. Don't quote me on that statistic, however I do remember it being some ridiculously long period of time!

Well if he does smoke around you or near you where you inhale the smoke you may get second hand smoke but not a likely chance. You may want to air out things that smell like the smoke and wash then a couple of times.

My brain becasue i know a lot of people who smoke! :0

Cigarette smoke gives me headaches too (and it really bothers my allergies). It may have no affect on you whatsoever.
