Question:

I'm on the methadone program and i'm having carpel tunnel surgery in a few days..my question is can I take my

dose the morning of my surgery or should I wait and dose when I get home..or when should I dose the day before or the day after?..my surgery is set for Wednesday @ 1230pm

Answers:

A couple issues here. It depends on how often you take the methadone. Some ppl take it once a day (to withdraw from hrn), some take it 3 times a day (for pain). If you take it once a day, I'd suggest at least 12 hours before the surgery (as methadone takes so long to "break down" in the body).

The best person to be asking this question to, is your surgeon or someone on his staff. They may not know alot about methadone (and amazingly, alot of doctors don't), but they can talk to other doctors who do who will advise them to advise you as to when to take the last dose BEFORE the surgery and when to take the following dose AFTER the surgery.

Simply call the surgeon's office. After all, you (or your family) can't sue us if we tell you the wrong answer and you croak on a surgery as simple as carpel tunnel surgery.
