Question: Open cut in top of finger, what do I do?
Yesterday my bf and I where preparing wine steak and my bf accidently dropped the bottle and cut the top of his finger. Its a pretty big cut and its open. I put some alcohol on it and wrapped it with a gauze and bandage. Will this be enough to heal on its own? We where planning to go to the keys and fish but now with this injury he won't be able to do much.

Make sure it is kept clean. Clean it with hydrogen peroxide a couple of times a day. Apply some antibiotic ointment. Put a bandaid around it. Try using those butterfly bandaids that are meant to help hold the sides of a cut together. You can also get special bandaids for the tip of the finger. Watch it and him for signs of infection - nausea, fever, heat and redness around the wound, swelling, pus, red streaks emanating from the wound. If he gets any of these symptoms he should see a doctor.
