Questions about cutting a vein in your wrist?!

Question: Questions about cutting a vein in your wrist?
1. How long would it take for you to die if you cut a vein in your wrist?
2. If you got to a hospital in time, what would they do to you?
3. If you did it purposely, would they put you in counseling if you're 15?

I'm not suicidal or anything, this is for a short story a friend and i are working on

Answers:

It would take a while but it depends on if you just cut the veins or if you sever them. Of course if you cut or severed an artery, you will bleed out quickly and again, it depends on if the artery is cut or severed, but the artery is so deep into your wrist, when someone commits suicide in this manner, they mostly always cut the veins since it is too painful to get to the artery.
I worked in a prison as the chief investigator of all murders and suicides, and I saw many suicides done when inmates would cut the veins in their arms, and I came to the conclusion that if a human truly wants to commit suicide by cutting the veins in their arms, they would not cut across the wrist vertically but they would cut horizontally and cut the entire vein.
And if you are 15 years old, it would not be your decision as to what the officials would do to you, it would be decided by them and our parents, and that includes being institutionalized

in order to die from bleeding out, you'd need to cut an artery. veins have no blood prssure in them (blood moves by one-way valves and surrounding muscle contractions moving the blood) so the blood king of just oozes out then clots up. Blood from an artery, however, is coming from the heart, and is moved by the hearts contractions. The blood rushes out on every heart beat.

If you were to cut an artery in your wrist i'd say you'd bleed out in maybe 15 minutes. If you cut a bigger artery, you'd of course bleed out faster. If you made it to the hospital, they would set to work slowing the blood there so it can clot (not really sure how, probably just clotting chems and pressure to the area). and yeah, if you tried your parents, friends, classmates, and everyone else you see regularly will never look at you the same way again. I don't think they will force you into therapy, but it will be "highly reccommended"

are you sure you're not suicidal? :s
