Question: Will my oral surgery hurt afterwards?
I am going to have oral surgery tomorrow where they are gonna put in a bracket and chain and pull down a tooth that never came in..i was told i would be out to sleep but i was wondering if i will experience a lot of pain after wards...if so how much on a scale of 1 through 10..also what can i do to subside this pain?.how long is the procedure?...and will i be able to go to school the next day ?..also any additional information would be great...Thanks In Advance...(:(

Don't go to school the next day... even after a smaller procedure like that, you'll want a few days of rest.

When I had my wisdom teeth out, I found the pain wasn't that bad. Maybe a 2 or 3. I was given Vicodin, but didn't take it because it made me nauseous. I took 800 mg ibuprofen (also prescribed to me by the surgeon) every four hours, and that was enough. Your surgeon will probably prescribe you some sort of pain medication for the recovery. If not, just take ibuprofen or tylenol.

I found the most discomfort came from the swelling, so I'd recommend putting on an ice pack as soon as you get home. Also, brewing black tea bags and placing them on the affected area is a really effective treatment. (:

Lastly, make sure to follow ALL of the post care instructions, such as rinsing with salt water to cleanse, etc. They'll help keep you from experiencing any future pain.
