Why is my body so sore after dancing?!

Question: Why is my body so sore after dancing?
I went to a dance practice which had a very intense routine, and I got a lot of exercise. All day, my back, legs, and part of my arms have been sore. I'm 14, and I may be growing soon, and that may cause the all-over body pain. What is going on if i'm wrong?

Answers:

It's unlikely that it is growing pains nor should you be too concerned. Both my wife and I are very active ballroom/latin dancers and dance weekly. When dancing you use a very large number of muscles particularly in the legs and the back. Some of these muscles may not get the same work out that others do. Add to this the fact that the routine was intense is all the more reason you will feel sore.

Unlike other sports which may require using only a certain set of muscles, dance makes intense use of numerous muscles for balance and maintaining your posture and frame. It is also easy to over work these muscles if you are not used to it. I would say that if you were to work on this routine on a regular basis you will no longer experience the soreness that you are now.

It's probably the amount of stretching you'd have done and the lactic acid released during intense exercise. To release the lactic acid, you need to stretch gently and hold each for 15 seconds, if you have pulled any muscles then you you need to hold the stretch for 10. Good luck :) x

You aren't wrong.
To relieve muscle pain without losing muscle,
ice your muscles for 15 minutes, then no ice for 15 minutes. Repeat this 3 times.
You will have rested for 1 and a half hour.

Stretching also helps a lot.

Ran track, cross country, and marathons for 2 years.

dancing can be VERY strenuous. your body should be sore
