Nerve block?!?!? Please help!!!?!

Question: Nerve block?!?!? Please help!!!?
Today I found out my daughter has RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy). She is 12 years old She is going to get nerve blocks in her hand because of the RSD pain. My daughter is also very afraid of needles! So I'm wondering....

What will they do?

Will they put her to sleep?

Will they put anything on her arm after they block the nerves? (like a cast, splint, sling?)

Will her hand be the same ever again after they are done?

Also I forgot to tell you she's going on a field trip on friday. She really want to go swimming but should she go swimming?

Answers:

i just had three of them in the past couple weeks and i am also terrified of pain. since i am so afraid of needles they numbed up my arm and gave me an iv which does not hurt. they gave me some medicine that makes you really happy and sleepy at the same time. the doctor described it as you will know what is going on but you will not care and you will be happy about it. so that did wonders. then they numbed up the skin on my leg which i barely felt. then thats when they do the procedure they use an ultrasound machine and a needle and do it. after she will probably have a sling for just a day till it wears off or maybe nothing it all depends. after it is done i felt like i couldnt move my toes but i could and it felt heavy. after 24 hours it starts to tingle and you regain feeling and it becomes completely normal again it will be the 100% ok within 48 hours. i am sure she can go swimming it may jsut be weird but i would ask.

also she is very young to have rsd they thought i had it then i saw a new doctor and he said people do not get it usually under the age of 30 so i may get a second opinion

They will not put her to sleep. They might give her a little sedation. Skin numbing solutions will be used so she shouldn't feel it go in.. It takes a few minutes until the block is completed. I am not sure if they will put a splint on her hand as I am not sure where exactly they are going to inject the block. They will probably put an ace wrap on it for support Her hand will be the same when the block wears off. As far a swimming see how she feels in the Morning. If she wants to go swimming then I can't see why not.Children are stronger than we think.
