How long do narcotics stay in your system?!

Question: How long do narcotics stay in your system?
I've been taking promethazine w/ codeine syrup (prescription) for the last 2 days now. I take about 5mL every 4-8 hours (or when I can remember to take them). I was told that my medicine contains narcotics and was wondering how long it takes to "get it out of my system" since I have a drug test in about a month that I really need to pass.

Answers:

The promethazine is nothing you will be tested for.. the codeine is an opiate.. so would be tested for on a drug panel. However, for short term use .. when you stop taking the cough medicine it should be out of your system within 3-4 days at the most. Of course things like cardiovascular exercise, and drinking alot of fluids to speed up the metabolic process can help with elimination.

Though if you have just been sick it is not advisable to be too active.

Further any legit prescription can be claimed at the laboratory (show the prescription bottle, etc) and it should have no bearing on your drug testing.

If the prescription isn't yours, well that is different.
