A woman who had just had a child with pain relief?!

Question: A woman who had just had a child with pain relief?
would you be able to answer a few questions on pain relief for me please?
:)
What type of pain relief did you use for birth and pregnancy?

Why did you chose this type of pain relief, and did you find it helpful?

Did you worry about the pain in labour you would approach?

If you had another child, would you use the same type of pain relief and why?

What advice would you give a pregnant woman during labour?

thank you :DD

Answers:

1) There is only paracetamol for pain control whilst you are pregnant. You can't take any Asprin or Ibuphrofen or stronger pain medications.

2) I used no pain relief during my 76 hour labour. Which in hindsight was really stupid as my body couldn't cope with the pain anymore and started shutting down.
My BP sored and I was loosing consciousness.
Eventually diliationg only 2 centremetres due to my son laying in the incorrect position, my decsion to refuse pain reilef was taken out of my hands and an Epidural was forced on me. Which I say now was the best thing ever!
I was then rushed off for an emergency cesearan section.

3) As I DIDN'T choose the Epidural and it was forced on me I do have to say it is wonderful.
Yes the local injection into my back hurt a lot. In fact my partner thought I was going to deck the Anethatist!
An Epidural is awesome. No pain what-so-ever. But I also couldn't move from the top of my waist down. So I had to have a cathater put in and have someone help me move.

4) I was terrified!
But I had used 'mind control' to convince myself for 9 months that labour would not hurt.
And in fact i really thought it wasn't too bad at all.
As I had an IV in my right wrist and had to stand every contraction, leaning on the bed, and I had preapred myself so well for labour pain BUT NOT other pain, I thought my wrist pain was worse than the labour pain. The Nursing staff thought I was crazy to be crying over the pain in my wrist when in labour.

5) If I was to have another child, a complication to the birth left me unable to have any more children, I would go for the Epidural straight away. It is that good.

6) My advice, I'm also a Nurse so get to use my skills as a mum and Nurse often, is to take the labour as it comes.
Don't put so much preasure on yourself that you won't use pain meds, as if you have to turn to them, some women feel like they have failed.
Make a Labour Plan that includes having the use of pain relief if you have to.
Making sure your OK with accepting pain relief, can help you through the labour, taking stress off of you.
Remember NO pregnancy and birth are the same. So be prepared to adjust plans. Or throw them out the window when needed.
Walk around as much as you can. This helps with pain and dilation.

You are doing the right thing by asking in here about pain relief, And getting people's opinions from around the World.
