Severe pain in left leg, behind knee please help!?!

Question: Severe pain in left leg, behind knee please help!?
Hi,

For the past 6 days my mum has been in agony with her leg. She's 50 and has been screaming the place down in pain. We've called ambulances, doctors, taken her to A&E twice and they keep saying trapped nerve, nothing we can do. She's not eating, drinking or sleeping. No amount of pain killers work. It's behind her left knee, radiates from her up downwards to her ankle. She says it throbs constantly and hurts worse than having kids. She is always crying and now can't move. Has anybody experienced this? Or think this sounds like a trapped nerve?

Any help would be MUCH appreciated thanks! x

As your mum has been seen by so many people they have probably ruled out any connection to any problem with the veins in her leg.
I have experienced this myself and can sympathise with her,it is probably the sciatic nerve that is trapped.Has she had any kind of fall that may have triggered this? She may have a damaged disc in her spine or they may be crumbling, when this happens it traps the nerves and causes all this pain.
I don't agree that they cant offer her any help, the very least they could do is offer her physio that would help to relax her. Has she had an Xray on her back or been offered a bone scan. She should go back to her Doctor and ask about this. Other than that all she can do is carry on with the pain killers and as difficult as it may be tell her to try to keep moving as much as possible as I found if I sit around to much the pain was worse. She should put her legs up when she sits down and tell her to have something to rest on that supports the whole leg right up against the chair and if possible level with her body. There are also some deep heat creams available that can help with pain relief.
I hope this helps a bit and that she will soon feel better.

I've had a bad knee for about a month. Rest etc. did not seem to be making a great deal of difference, I am 65.
My wife forced me to go to private Physiotherapist. I have been "worked on" twice and can honestly say it has improved my 50/60%. She has given me exercises which seem to be doing the job!

OK it cost me £39 first and £33 subsequent visits but is well worth it. Don't wait for "free" physio on NHS, you will still be waiting...............

Hope this helps!

Your Mum needs to see either a Physio or an Osteopath. Costs about £35 to £40 and he should be able to release whatever is trapped.

Try acupunture. It works great on nerves.
