What works best to ease arthritis pain? Heat or cold?!

Question: What works best to ease arthritis pain? Heat or cold?
Answers:

My herniated disc causes arthritis--- and it is PAINFUL I understand..
I think they both work for different reasons..

Heat treats the inflamation--- causing the muscles to loosen up a bit-- and relax
The cold I find tends to numb the pain itself a bit

I think that alternating heat and cold works the best..

From my personal experience-- I find that Lidocaine patches 5% (perscription only) gives the sensation that ice gives without the inconvience of sitting down staying still and balencing an ice pack on you all day--- it frees you up to actually live your life..
If you can- I would talk to your doctor and ask about this option.... I would them place a heating patch over it--- may work wonders

experience

It differs on the level of pain i guess---sometimes you can start a cycle and switch between heat or cold until u feel a difference from when u first started
