How is health care in Costa Rica?!

Question: How is health care in Costa Rica?
My husband's a fisherman and we were looking at properties and thinking about moving to Costa Rica. I have two chronic conditions (migraines and an ulcer) that need to be treated on a daily basis and I wondered how health care over there was?

Answers:

To state the obvious, It won't be Healthcare in America. For all of the critics and doomsday titans, America still stands strong on meeting the needs of our people on a medical level. You know. Your friends know. We also know cases are missed where people slip through the cracks...and our response has never been indifference.

What I know about Costa Rica is that it is not our system. I have heard many good things about their system. From travelling in Africa for 3 months I visited "nice" facilities that still paled in comparison with what we have back home. Not to say Costa Rica isn't better.

Yes, all your medical needs can be met over there -- but be proactive! If it looks not clean enough or not professional enough, move on. Learn for yourself what treatments you need, how they are usually done, what is appropriate, etc. Be polite. Refrain from what you must.

[And remember, they're working long hours with what they've got. They're not "bad." Just grossly underprivileged.

the publicly funded free health care is good and gets good reviews form the UN and WHO
the private sector is even better and much cheaper than in the US
