Pain in the left side of my chest?!

Question: Pain in the left side of my chest?
Last night I got this pain in the left side of my chest, but it wasn't to bad. In the middle of the night, I kept getting up though because it started hurting a lot worse and it still does. It hurts when I'm just sitting here, when I'm laying down, when I laugh, and mostly when I breath in really deep. I have a cold as well, and my mom claims it's from me coughing. She always assumes things. It feels like someone is squeezing my heart or lungs or whatever is over on that side. :\

Any ideas of what this could be?
I'm only 14 and I'm really scared.

Answers:

Well, most times when we have a coughing 'fit' we tend to pull our muscles in our chest area, and also in our stomach area as well.
I personally don't think this is the case in your situation though, and I only say that due to the symptoms you have listed.I suggest you see your doctor, and mention a medical condition known as 'Costochondritis',which is common amongst teenagers, and young adults. The symptoms can vary from person to person..such as....chest pain on the left side, pain upon inhaling/deep breath, pain worsening when laying flat,tenderness/pain to the touch, some inflammation to the area of pain, and those are only some of the symptoms associated with this medical condition.Keep in mind...I am not offering/suggesting a diagnoses, but only an opinion.I do however suggest you mention this condition to your doctor, and ask for your doctors medical opinion only. And,your cold helps none at all,and can make symptoms even worse.
So,this is my opinion.Just see your doctor, and mention this medical condition, and ask the opinion of your doctor.Try an anti inflammatory medication...Ibuporfen...up to 600mg's every 4 to 6 hours.Make sure you get your parents permission/acknowledge first before taking any medication(s).
Take care and feel better soon!

Medical research, and have had this medical condition myself!

you should see a doctor I mean it could just be a pulled muscle take some advil and if it doesn't feel any better by this afternoon you should go to the er and get it checked out
