What could a "tearing/crunching" sound in my knee mean?!

Question: What could a "tearing/crunching" sound in my knee mean?
I'm 13 years old, and I'm not particularly too active in sports.
But whenever I sit down and get up, or do squats, I hear this "sound" in my right knee.

It's this tearing/crunching sound that occurs. I've never had this problem before, and it doesn't seem to hurt. Yet, I'm afraid of what it might escalate in to.

Could this be serious? Or do you think that it will go away with time? And why is this happening?

Thank you for all your help.

Answers:

You hear a "tearing / crunching" in your knee and your first thought is "I know, i'll ask on Yahoo Answers !" instead of going immediately to your parents and ask them to make an urgent appointment with your DOCTOR !

If you want to know your problem (be it cartilage related, or whatever) you MUST see a Doctor as soon as possible ! "Tearing and crunching" is NEVER a positive thing.
