Why did I pass out??!

Question: Why did I pass out??
Hello,

I am 20 years old and yesterday I had two of my finger tips closed in a door frame. The slight pain lasted for about 20 seconds. No big deal. However, right after the pain went away, I noticed my hearing slowly go away.I sat down for a moment and then got back up. I felt like I needed to pop my ears and then I noticed my vision started getting darker around the edges. I walked towards the dining room table where my parents were and that's the last thing I remember. Apparently I leaned forward and then back and completely passed out for a little under a minute.

My question is why did this happen? I've never passed out in my life. I have had some serious injuries like a wound on my elbow that bled rather severely, fracturing my fibula and having a small stick puncture my skin and go into my knee. I honestly barely flinched when these things occured so my pain tolerance is really quite great.

I do have slightly elevated blood pressure (i'm on a light medication). I went to the hospital and everything checked out fine, the doctor said it was a freak thing but idk. Answers please??? I want to go in the military is a year or so and I feel so stupid after this happened. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The circumstances you experienced likely caused a combination of responses from your body that led to your blackout. When your finger was caught your body went into fight or flight and started dumping adrenalin raising your heart rate, constricting your blood vessels and increasing your respiration. the constricted bloodvessles in your brain didn't allow enough oxygen to get to where it needed to be. This was likely exacerbated by another factor like low blood sugar or low blood pressure, both inhibit the ability of blood to transport o2. Anyway, probably just a freak occurrence, I wouldn't worry.

Passing out from injuring your fingers is possible. It is also possible when people see blood, and many other things. In a healthy 20 year old the most probable cause is called a "vasal Vagel resonse". Basically this is similar to pushing to have a BM. It occurs when the vegal nerve gets "shocked" and the response is to pass out. We are designed with the fight or flight response to outside stimulus. We firght it out or we take off (passing out is taking off). Doesn't sound like a problem.

It could be a lot of things, but judging by your vision getting darker around the edges and the hearing going away, it may have been that your blood sugar was too low. The fact that you were slightly injured beforehand could just be mere coincidence OR it could have been that the rise in your adrenaline caused your blood sugar to dip (I know mine gets particularly low when I'm getting ready to speak in front of a crowd or when I'm nervous). The doctor may not have caught it if you don't have a history with low blood sugar, and maybe your blood sugar had been regulated by the time you got checked out.

Personal experience. I have hypoglycemia and those symptoms are exactly what happens to me when my blood sugar's low.
