Sleep Paralysis - Do I fight it?!

Question: Sleep Paralysis - Do I fight it?
I've only ever had it twice in my life, I'm 16 now - I had it yesterday night; Its a horrible feeling! I woke up to find I could only move my eye's, and nothing else - I was one of the unlucky ones that also had a image of someone standing at my door with a gun, I tried to scream but nothing would come out, I tried to fight against it to make myself move, but nothing happened, I then thought to myself 'Its happened before, pull yourself together Ryan and just SLEEP!'... so I did, and I fell back to sleep. Before it happened I felt as if I was shaking like I was vibrating on my bed, it was so strange!

So, really what I'm asking is for a little information on what Sleep Paralysis is, in simple terms (I'm not the brightest out of the bunch, haha!) and also, if I ever had it happen to me again, is it best to try to fight against it to make myself wake up, or is it best to just close my eyes, make myself think that there's no one there and go to sleep? - but if I did try to fight against it, just to see what would happen, there wouldn't be any chance of causing myself any harm, would there?

Sorry if I sound stupid, I've just done some re-search on it, and I really to no more about this!

Many thanks,

Ryan-Lee.

Answers:

Sleep paralysis is a natural event that occurs every time you fall asleep. Sometimes the brain wakes up before the body and the paralysis is still in place. Moving any body part, like a pinky or a toe, will break it. It is not dangerous.

No, there shouldn't be any harm if you try and fight it; since you probably couldn't anyway.
I know how this feels, it's happened to me so many times, very scary.

I think this is what Sylvia Brown calls astral catalepsy ? I get this sometimes.. I just don't fight it anymore. Just lie still and let it happen...it's too frustrating to try and wake up.

There is a switch in your brain that partially shuts off the muscles. Other wise you would beat your self to death while dreaming.

the legend says that a demon called Mora, appears when you are about to sleep. in the point between the real world and the dream world.

she then sits on your chest, holding your hands and feet preventing you from screaming or standing up, leaving you to die. she usually appears in the form of a woman in black or a little dwarf/elf, if you manage to take the hat the dwarf wears you will have 3 wishes, once she takes it back, you will die.

one way if you can manage it is to say the Lord's Prayer, she will then go away.
you could also look directly in her eyes and show that you don't fear her.

on the doctor's perspective, this can occur if you are under a lot of pressure, or see a very terrible nightmare. be warned that your friends/family... MUST wake you, because this paralysis can cause a stroke.

(this happened to a 11 year old cousin of my friend, the boy stayed to the hospital for 3 days,to make sure his brain is not harmed)
