What can i do about my injured knee?!

Question: What can i do about my injured knee?
I hurt my knee during track i sprained one of the 3 ligaments on the inside of my knee i have rested it for the last 2 weeks and have iced it at all possible times. It still hurts a little when i walk. I want to be back at track asap but i don't want anymore trouble out of this injury. What are some exercises i can do to help it heal faster, foods i can eat that will speed up healing, can i go back to track if i do the very minimum amount of running?

Answers:

Ligaments are attached to muscles and bones, therefore if you did sprain a ligament, you probably also injured the muscle that it is attached to. Take Ibuprofen, it decreases inflammation which will help you heal faster. As far as exercises go, make sure you stretch your leg well so you do not get stiff, as this will make it worse. The only food that may or may not help you is something high in protein. If your muscle is what is still causing you pain protein will help strengthen. Some foods that are high in protein is peanut butter, nuts, fish, etc. Make sure to rest it, and continue icing it, but interchange the ice with heat.

honestly, i did the same thing in cheerleading, and thought that i just sprained one of the ligaments in my knee, but i got an MRI and it showed that i tore my acl AND both meniscus. so i suggest getting and mri, and asking the doctor what exercises to do because i thought i was fine and walked on it for a week and i made things worse. i know how it feels to want to be back to a sport, but pushing yourself too much could make matters worse:( but for now, kudos on icing it:)

i just got acl and meniscal reconstructive surgery on mar 25!

A exercise you could do is put your legs out straight and sit a decent size book on your foot and now try lifting it up and down. This is an exercise they give patients who have had a knee replacement, so give it a go. As for getting back on the track, don't you think you should give it another week or two ?. Good luck
