Experiencing subjective symptoms after head injury..?!

Question: Experiencing subjective symptoms after head injury..?
I recently suffered a head injury, I keep going dizzy suddenly if I move my head too quickly, or if I bend down. Every now and then I have mild throbbing pain in my head, but in my opinion it isn't severe enough to call it a head ache, I just get light headed, I know these are subjective symptoms of a head injury, but if this occurred a week after the accident, would this be something that needed checking up on? But because they are subjective symptoms and are very common after a head injury and the fact my symptoms aren't severe, is there really any point in going to get checked up on??

Answers:

You can never be *too* careful with head injuries. In fact it is taught in medical school and residency to WAY overshoot with diagnostic with head injury because of this fact. Someone can seem quite normal and fine and then be dead 30 minutes later with a head injury. Then someone can be acting quite severely and the injury be fairly minor. It is all relativel, even objectively.

Yes there is a point in getting a check up -- you never know if there is residual swelling, edema, fluid retenion/build up etc going on creating these symptoms post accident. So it bears monitoring.

Likely, all is ok -- and is , as you say, subjective (everything is subjective to you though :) ) -- results of the injury and in the 'normal' range.

I would at least, if this persists, see a GP/PCP and report all symptoms you have reported, the injury, and so on -- that you are concerned and see if the doctor thinks based on your symptoms does any imaging need to be taken.

I would generally prefer to run at least a quick CT scan with such reported symptoms just to be safe even if it is 99% chance of a normal report.

Prevention is huge, especially in regards to the confined space of our brains.

i think it would depend how severe the head injury was, were you unconscious? what medical help was given at the time? Only you can tell if you need further examination but from what you are saying i would give it more time and take things easy there may be some internal bruising that needs to heal.

I would have got it checked as soon as it happened....sounds serious enough
You could have a concussion...get it checked please...

All head injuries are serious. Please see a Dr.TODAY
