Can you cast an instant in the next phase that affects the previous phase?!

Question: Can you cast an instant in the next phase that affects the previous phase?
Let's say I have a Goblin Tunneler (tap to make target creature unblockable) and a Goblin Instigator (doublestrike, brings in goblins if damage gets dealt to player), and my opponent has a 2/3 Nissa's Chosen and a Vines of Vastwood (target creature cannot be the target of a spell your opponent casts).

Main Phase: I tap my Goblin Tunneler to make my Goblin Instigator unblockable and wait a few moments.

Attack Phase: I attack with the Instigator. Then my opponent casts Vines of Vastwood on my Instigator, canceling the Goblin Tunneler's effect, then blocks with his 2/3 Nissa's Chosen.

Is this legal for him to wait to use the Vastwood until after I attack? Or does he have to use it during my main phase?

Answers:

He cannot do that. He must make the Goblin instigator have shroud when you originally target it with the ability of Tunneler. The ability the Tunneler gave Instigator was only ever targeted when you put it on the stack, once it resolves it no longer targets and shroud only stops Targeting.
