Contact lens prescription verified by Doctor?!

Question:

Contact lens prescription verified by Doctor?

Does anyone know the process of getting your prescription verified by your eye doctor?

I ordered contact lens from two different websites. (One website was lagging on my order so I ordered another box on a diff website cuz I ran out of contacts.)

Anyways, I received an email from both website stating that they were unable to verify my info b/c they couldn't contact my doctor however, they said by law they are required to send me my contacts anyways.

I did receive the contacts from both of them.

Is anyone familar with this? As for as not getting your prescription verified? Can't ppl just make up some stuff then?

(BTW, I did have a valid prescription and I entered my dr. info as what is on my papers.)

Answers:

I ordered contacts from 1-800 Contacts once. When they shipped my order, it said that they weren't able to verify with my doctor. However, the fax that they sent to the doctor said that "if no response was received within 24 hours, they would assume the prescription was correct and ship the order."

So, I suppose that's their way of covering their butts without having to lose too much time waiting for verification...putting the onus on the doctor to contact them if anything is wrong, otherwise they'll operate under the assumption that everything is okay.

(Whether or not that's wise, I'm not certain...seems like you'll never know if the doctor's office didn't respond b/c everything was okay, or whether the request was just totally missed. Turns out that I had a mistake in my order...I misread the base curve number on the prescription...entered it as 8.8 when it was supposed to be 8.3. So technically, someone should have caught that when verifying the prescription. On the bright side, 1-800 contacts has a good exchange policy as long as the boxes are unopened/sealed, so I still ultimately got the correct contacts.)
