How to stop my eyes being irriated when putting contacts on?!

Question:

How to stop my eyes being irriated when putting contacts on?

I'm a contact lens wearer, every time i put my contacts on with difficulty my skin around my eyes and my eyes become red and irritated.

Answers:

Not all lenses are created equal; talk to your optometrist about the problem and see if you can get a trial pair made by a different company.

The same goes for saline solution. Try a different brand.

Even if the saline solution is "no rub" clean your contacts very thoroughly before putting them in! My eyes are very sensitive so I clean each side twice (with fresh solution for 30 seconds each side) before I put them in. Yes, it takes a bit longer, but it doesn't hurt afterwards. Also, always carry a little bottle of visine (you can get really tiny ones) for when your eyes get dry during the day.

Do you wear dailies, monthlies or longer? You might be allergic to the saline solution, in which case, dailies might be your only hope. Dailies are easiest for sensitive eyes anyway. Again, it is vital you talk to your optometrist about it. Explain the problems you have as clearly as possible. They will be best qualified to assess the situation and tell you precisely what you can do to fix it. You don't want to play around with your eyes.

Other than that, don't wear your contacts for any longer than necessary, and try giving your eyes a break from contacts by wearing glasses all day at least one day a week.
