I have astigmatism?!

Question:

I have astigmatism?

I have pretty bad astigmatism and have hard contacts, they really hurt. I want to know if I can wear soft contacts?

Answers:

Actually, you will need to work with your ophthalmologist to find the right soft contact lens for your astigmatism. It really depends on how much astigmatism you have, whether it is regular or irregular, your corneal surface.

My husband had +3 and +3.5 astigmatism in his eyes, and he could get soft contacts, but the cost was huge! There have been more recent developments in the variety of soft contacts out there, so options may be greater than the last time he got his toric lenses (we quit getting them when they were costing $200 per lens...and with his work, contacts that expensive weren't a good idea).

Work with your optometrist closely to get the right toric lens, but do be prepared to pay a bit more depending on the amount of astigmatism you have for a good fitting contact lens.
