My Eyes are swollen and I think it's because of my contacts?!

Question:

My Eyes are swollen and I think it's because of my contacts?

Hi-I've been wearing contacts for about 3 months now, and my doctor said only wear them for 2 weeks at a time, then replace them, but my boyfriend's been wearing them since he was 13 and he says he always wears them for more than a month, and then replaces them, so I did the same because I didn't have any problems with them so I figured that it would be ok to wear them longer, but about 2 days ago, my upper right eyelid began to hurt, but then I figured nothing about it and figured I just hit my eye on something with knowing it, but yesterday, I replaced my contact lenses and took them off before bed, and this morning I woke up and my eye had swollen up!!!! What's wrong!!!!??

Answers:

this sounds like possible "GPC" to me, or "giant papillary conjunctivitis", an eyelid inflammatory response from wearing contacts too long. this is one of the reasons you need to replace your lenses every 2 weeks.

you'll likely need an optometrist to get you over this...you need an appointment.
