My contact lense keeps getting lost in my eye, and when I find it it's crushed!?!

Question:

My contact lense keeps getting lost in my eye, and when I find it it's crushed!?

My contact lens have gotten lost in my eye twice in my first three weeks. When I find it again, it's folded and crushed...and even unusable. How can I prevent this from happening?

Answers:

A. You have the wrong size and need to be refitted

B. You are putting them in inside out. I dont know if all contacts have this, but mine (acuvue advance) has an inside and outside. If you look at the lense while it is inside out, you will see a defined lip around the edge. Looking at it right side out, the edge is smooth. The also have acuvue written on them.. if you can read it correctly they are right side out. If you wear your lense inside out it will hurt and can be easily flipped out or folded

C. You are rubbing your eyes to much. It is very easy to fold your lense in your eye if you are rubbing a lot, especially if crying or directly after using drops. The moisture gets under the lense and makes it move easier

D. I sleep in my contacts. Generally when you sleep or have your eyes closed for a long time your eyes will sit in one position. When you finally open your eyes your lense will be slightly dry and it is easy to flip it out or fold it then. It is usually unadviable to sleep in your contacts but if you tell your doc that is what you are doing they will generally give you a lense that promotes 'breathing' of the eyes and suggest eye drops.
