Eyes "spacing out" or losing focus involuntarily?!

Question:

Eyes "spacing out" or losing focus involuntarily?

I had this problem as a kid-- usually when I was bored-- where my eyes would suddenly stare off into space and I'd kind of zone out. In the last few months it is happening again-- but my brain isn't zoning out with it, just my eyes-- and at random times when I am engaged in an activity. I am mostly healthy (smoke and a few pounds overwieght, but otherwise "normal") and I do get migraines, but not at the same time as the zoning. Any idea what this is? Anyone else have it? My husband has never heard of it so it got me concerned...
