Answers:

They'll only do the puff of air if you're over 30. some places are younger some places are older.

a sight test usually begins with the initial exam, they will ask you to rest your chin on a bar whilst they line a machine up, you just have to stare straight ahead whilst the machine estimates your prescription.

Then if they have to they will use the non contact tonometer which will blow three short puffs of air onto the surface of your eye to check the pressure in the eye

some opticians offer retinal photography. Again you rest your chin on a bar look straight ahead and all you'll see is a flash and that takes a picture of the back of your eye (your retina).

Then you go in to the optician. Some opticians have over 100 different ways of testing your eyes, vision express do. None of these ways involve needles.

It is only certain circumstances where you will have the drops.

Generally the optom will not even touch your eye, they may touch your eyelid.
