Contacts and Lasik Advice?!

Question:

Contacts and Lasik Advice?

Ok, got a couple Q's. I'm FINALLY having lasik done this Thursday and I'm so excited! I could start a fire with my glasses! lol
So, I'd like to hear from some people that have had this surgery....I've heard from lots of people who had it and loved it but I'd still love to hear more insight. How hard is after care, how long did it take to get back to normal? My doc says with this new machine within an hour I'll be able to see way better than before the surgery, and by the next day I'll be back to regular life.
Also, I've always wanted to use colored contacts but can't stand leaving them in too long so I couldn't wear them as my full time correction. Can I get contacts with no RX correction that I can just wear for fun? What are some of the better brands?
What other questions should I ask my doc before I go in? I've had my pre-op, but I was so excited to find out I'm a candidate I forgot alot of Q's/
Thanks in advance! :-)

Hey Scottso, did you read the ENTIRE question there jerkoff? Maybe you need eye surgery too!

Answers:

My husband and I have both had LASIK/PRK in the last 5 weeks...and so far, very good results.

There is a drop regimen...two drops, an antibiotic and an anti-inflammatory drop, and preservative free artificial tears whenever you feel you need it. At his one month followup last week, he was 20/30 (that was his best corrected in glasses) and 20/20.

Be sure to follow your surgeon's directions. Ours told us to go home and sleep for 2-4 hours during the mild burning and tearing stage. No water near your eyes for one week...careful in the shower! maybe buy some swimming goggles lol No eye rubbing for one week (this was my hardest cause it's a habit for me). He was back to regular activities the day after his LASIK. Now, my PRK had a longer healing time and I had to have bandage contacts in for 4 days, I had a third drop (a second anti-inflammatory), and I had pain meds (PRK is just a different approach...no flap).

I would probably ask if he provides protective goggles for sleeping for your first few days. Ours did...just to make sure we didn't rub our eyes in our sleep. Make sure of the amount of time prior to wearing eye makeup. If you use moisturizers that have scent to them, maybe check to see if those might irritate your eyes.

On the professional note: Ask how many procedures he has done and what the enhancement rate is. Check his medical/surgical background...ask where he did his fellowship, if LASIK is the only type of procedure he has done. Ask how thick your corneas are...and how much will be taken...ask what his threshold is for corneal thickness post procedure (FDA says 250, most surgeons SHOULD be above this considerably).

I'm going to attach a link below...you can read that and come up with more questions.

Good luck and just follow your doctor's orders and you'll be fine.
